i am woman, hear me rawr!

I’ve watched a total of 20 movies on the big screen since the year started and while there have been some REALLY great flicks, I have to give my IT MOVIE AWARD to the movie that brought back my favorite characters to the screen, Sex and the City 2.

The film was all glitz, all glamor and simply FABULOUS As always, the fashion was breath-taking…and don’t get me started on the shoes! I love it!!! Carrie’s closet is always something that makes my heart stop for a moment or two. Suffice it to say, that night left me breathless a lot! It was really nice to see my favorite friends on screen again and all grown-up. I like how the story transitioned smoothly from the first one without leaving you questioning where these came from. Even the little props from the first flick made cameos, which, if you are a fan, you surely won’t miss. The downside, however, was that the film lacked the characteristic “oomph” that the series had. Nonetheless, I loved the movie a whole lot!

Since SATC2 is yet to open locally on the 2nd, I will refrain from posting my insights and reflections for now, especially as I read the draft I made seems to have bits that can be considered a spoiler (which I know many readers hate!!!). As a teaser, however, I will say this: the movie left me with a lot of conflicting feelings ranging from extremely giddy to a bit sad and nostalgic. Go see the movie, read my post about it on the POC on the 1st, and come back here after the second to read about my opinions of the film. I will end with this, however, it is the IT chick flick of the year for me

While watching TV this afternoon while nomnoming some Haagén Dazs ice cream (wanna know why I bought the ice cream? stay tuned or scroll down!), I saw a contest about SATC2 hosted by Sky Cable…win 2 tickets to a special screening on Jun 2, 2010, Wed, 7.30 pm at Powerplant’s Cinema 2. One week FIVE DAYS to go for the advanced screening of Sex and the City 2!!! WEEEE!!! I’m way beyond excited. My only problem is that it’s on a Wednesday and I’m coding!!!

Nonetheless, I can’t wait to see it!

Another digital 3D cinema opens in the metro! This time, it is housed by the Eastwood Mall in Libis. When asked why Eastwood waited this long to open a Digital 3D cinema, their reply was that they were simply waiting for the best technology to come along. And what perfect timing…just in time for the cinema launch is the Shrektacular (thanks to Jennie and Jeff Aspacio for this fabulous play of words!) flick, Shrek Forver After.

I may not be the most discerning audience so if you asked me what makes this digital cinema better than the others, I can’t really pinpoint what it is. What I do know, however, is that what I liked better was that the seats were way more comfortable (yup, rocker chairs there! great for restless peeps like me. Plus rocking it didn’t result to rocking the whole row, so that is an added bonus!) and that the glasses were comfortable and fit quite well. I’ve been to other cinemas where the glasses were either too wide or too narrow.

This was the first time for me to get to watch a movie at the Eastwood Cinemas and I enjoyed it a lot! While the mall is the one I get to go to least (mainly because of it’s distance) it is because of Eastwood that I got to see two of my favorite Filipino artists ever. My first trip to Eastwood was to see Regine Velasquez perform and this third time to the mall, I got to see Kris Aquino – Yap. Yes, I like the two most controversial stars possible!!!

What would Sex and the City be without the City right? But in the long awaited sequel SATC2 takes the girls outside of the Big Apple to what is dubbed as one of the most luxurious, exotic and vivid places on earth. Oooh…I can’t wait!!

I can’t wait to see Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda in this new exciting chapter of their lives!! It will be interesting to see how their stories will tie in this time and where their adventures end up. Here’s a little sneak peek:

In whatever city they’re at, these girls will definitely bring all the glitz and glamour!!!

Today was a long and extremely tiring day and it was getting to me. Not only did I get stuck in horrible traffic all day long, I also had to wait forever for the shuttle to fill up so I can head home. I finally made it to my destination and as soon as I got off the shuttle, the rain poured. I had with me 3 ginormous bags and no umbrella. Fun, right? So while trying to unwind, I checked out my FB account and saw something that finally made me smile:

My ultimate favorite character, Carrie Bradshaw is back and she is still fabulous! SATC2 will be shown in theaters on June 2 and I ABSOLUTELY AM COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS  till I get to see these fabulous girls once again. Sarah Jessica Parker will be reprising her role as Carrie, as always! The film will still have the whole caboodle of characters back too: Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, Mr. Big and from the trailer I saw, even Aidan.

June 2 please come now! Bye-bye bad mood!!!

Not too long ago, I saw a Yahoo! trending topic that read “Leonardo Di Caprio”. I clicked on the link and saw that it was because he was promoting his upcoming thriller, Shutter Island. From that time on, I knew I wanted to watch the movie. For one, it was a psychological thriller. Given my line of work, it definitely was a topic of interest. Secondly, this is the exact kind of genre I love watching. I’m not really very much into the scream-y, gory type of thrillers, but those that kind of play with the mind really fascinate me. This is why I was really looking forward to catching Shutter Island.

I was able to see the film last Tuesday and all I can say is: I got lost in it! I liked most of it, but the others kind of left me thrown off. The storyline was quite interesting and I liked the twists and turns the tale took. It’s kind of difficult to really review the film because any little statement I give will end up becoming a spoiler! I remember I commented in a Plurk thread how it reminded me of another film and a fellow blogger pointed out that I inadvertently spoiled the ending for him!

Here’s an attempt at giving you, my readers, a rundown of the film without revealing much: The story starts with US Marshall Teddy Daniels heading off to Shutter Island, home of an asylum for the worst of the worst psychologically insane criminals to investigate the disappearance of one of it’s inmates. However, as he tries to unravel the mystery behind her vanishing, he soon finds himself haunted by memories of his past, including that of his dead wife Dolores.

Shutter Island is directed by Martin Scorsese. This is Di Caprio and Scorsese’s fourth collaboration. For me, the film had a very distinct Martin Scorsese feel to it, what with the musical score and the style of storytelling.

Do I recommend this film? Well, this would definitely be one of those movies in which I would have to say “it would depend”. For me, I liked it. Others were less forgiving about the way the film ends in particular. Nonetheless, if you’re looking for a good way to spend an afternoon, do catch it. Don’t expect anything lighthearted or heartwarming though.

Everyone’s favorite Friend continues to wow audiences with her comedic flair long after the series has ended. Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel in the series Friends, is back on the big screen for another romantic comedy, The Bounty Hunter.

The movie also stars Gerard Butler as her ex-husband cop who is hired as a bounty hunter to chase after Nicole (Aniston’s character) after she jumps bail. Thinking it would be an easy job, Milo (Butler) sets off to find the escaped reporter. However, like any reporter chasing after a big story, she continues to evade Milo until he, too, gets weaved in to the chase.

Typically, reading such a synopsis would suggest a highly action packed thriller, but The Bounty Hunter promises to be a laugh-filled chase. Aniston was hailed by the movie’s director, Andy Tennant, for her great comic timing. As he put it, “Jennifer is really very quick on her comedic feet, [and] She would play with co-star Gerard Butler, but also kind of throw him off a little bit. Watching their scenes together was like watching two people playing a really good game of tennis.”

I’m looking forward to catching this film when it comes out! I’m expecting a light-hearted comedy that will make me swoon and feel the kilig that romantic movies bring
