Exploring New Ventures

I think anyone who reads my blogs regularly knows I’m trying to make a lot of personal changes this year to get myself ready for new and exciting things this 2011. For one, I am starting to plan my “retirement” from preschool teaching, even though it is probably going to be one of the most difficult decisions I will ever have to make.

What I know for sure is that I want to explore my writing career more in the coming months. Perhaps this is really where I’m supposed to be. I’m really glad that I can actually make these changes at this point in my life, especially since I am still single and my baby does not need much except my love and attention. And dog food, hehe.

Seriously though, if I had to consider making a mortgage, raising a family, or maintaining a business (such as my own preschool which I had once supposedly envisioned!) complete with paying all sorts of fees such as government permits, business insurance, and employee salaries (including benefits such as social security and insurance for group health or HMO enrollments),  it probably won’t be as easy a decision to make as it is shaping out to be.

Of course the downside to becoming my own boss is the drastic change in finances that will come my way. Besides losing a big chunk of my regular pay check, I have to make adjustments too in many other aspects of my life. Plus I have to consider losing certain benefits and privileges that come with the job, such as medical coverage (especially since individual insurance rates are soooo much higher than group health insurance rates!) I still plan to maintain my university teaching job, though, so that provides me the safety net I need right now.

In any case, I am looking forward to making the most of my new adventures. I just hope I make the right decisions!!!
