Eastwood Cinemas go Digital 3D

Another digital 3D cinema opens in the metro! This time, it is housed by the Eastwood Mall in Libis. When asked why Eastwood waited this long to open a Digital 3D cinema, their reply was that they were simply waiting for the best technology to come along. And what perfect timing…just in time for the cinema launch is the Shrektacular (thanks to Jennie and Jeff Aspacio for this fabulous play of words!) flick, Shrek Forver After.

I may not be the most discerning audience so if you asked me what makes this digital cinema better than the others, I can’t really pinpoint what it is. What I do know, however, is that what I liked better was that the seats were way more comfortable (yup, rocker chairs there! great for restless peeps like me. Plus rocking it didn’t result to rocking the whole row, so that is an added bonus!) and that the glasses were comfortable and fit quite well. I’ve been to other cinemas where the glasses were either too wide or too narrow.

This was the first time for me to get to watch a movie at the Eastwood Cinemas and I enjoyed it a lot! While the mall is the one I get to go to least (mainly because of it’s distance) it is because of Eastwood that I got to see two of my favorite Filipino artists ever. My first trip to Eastwood was to see Regine Velasquez perform and this third time to the mall, I got to see Kris Aquino – Yap. Yes, I like the two most controversial stars possible!!!

Bubba’s Healthy Skin Buddy

pawnacea

I remember the first time I took Bubba to the beach. He had a blast. However, by the time we got home, he was running a very high fever and he could barely walk. I thought it was just exhaustion or perhaps sore paws because he was not used to the sand. But by the next morning, his fever was worse and he couldn’t stand anymore. I rushed him to the vet and found out that he had cut up his feet REALLY BADLY by climbing the rocks in front of La Luz beach resort in Laiya. We had fun climbing up and getting our photo taken, but I didn’t realize the repercussions of it to his feet.

The vet gave him antibiotics, both oral and via injection and instructed me to treat it with a skin antibiotic. Since then, whenever he would get hot spots or wounds, I would use the same skin antibiotic and it worked fine.

However, earlier this year, I joined my blogger friend Earth’s blogversary contest and I won a pot of Pawnacea All-Natural Paw Balm from Project Lightning and since then, it has become Bubba’s new healthy skin buddy! Whenever I notice a hot spot starting in Bubba, I treat it with a small amount of balm and it really makes it better in no time. I’ve been trying to document this in photos but I’ve never had the opportunity to do so, but in general, it took about 2-3 days for the spots to dry up and heal.

Back from Vacation!

Bubba and I are back from our brief vacation :-)

Before I share about our experience, I’d like to apologize to my loyal contest commentators for the delay in approving your comments because I wasn’t able to check yesterday since we were in the beach. I read them all today though and again, THANKS!

Sadly, it was not as enjoyable as I had hoped it to be because I did not know that the place we went to had a policy against dogs swimming in the beach :-( I assumed that since it was a privately owned beach house in a beach-side community, I wouldn’t have problems. I know most resorts don’t allow for dogs but a home??? Well, apparently I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong: I’m not faulting the village I went to for the policy, but I wish I had known beforehand so I wouldn’t have been so disappointed.

Nonetheless, Bubba and I were able to squeeze in a total of about 20 minutes of beach time before we were ejected (10 on the first, another  10 on my second attempt!!!). I felt bad for him when I’d take him back to the house because he was having so much fun!!! Next time I’ll take him to Balai sa Laiya instead, which is a beach resort in Batangas that allows for him to come and join me :-)

On the way there, it was so funny because I had three of my friends sitting in the backseat of the car, I let Bubba in the car and he refused to leave the drivers seat!!! I should post a photo but it’s still in my friend’s camera! It took some coaxing for him to move to the passengers seat. My friend even jokingly asked if he was insured…or if the car was :-) Now that I plan to take Bubba in more road trips, I guess I should check out cheap insurance quotes that cover not just the car but the driver a.k.a Bubba too!

The Glitz, the Girls, the Glamour….without the City?

What would Sex and the City be without the City right? But in the long awaited sequel SATC2 takes the girls outside of the Big Apple to what is dubbed as one of the most luxurious, exotic and vivid places on earth. Oooh…I can’t wait!!

I can’t wait to see Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda in this new exciting chapter of their lives!! It will be interesting to see how their stories will tie in this time and where their adventures end up. Here’s a little sneak peek:

In whatever city they’re at, these girls will definitely bring all the glitz and glamour!!!

Sex and the City 2 is presented by New Line Cinema, In Association with Home Box Office, In Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, A Darren Star Production, A Film by Michael Patrick King, and is scheduled to be released on Philippine theaters June 2,2010 by Warner Bros. My 2010 election experience

When I got up to vote yesterday, I had only a handful of candidates in my list that I was completely convinced of voting for. The rest of my list was filled up with other senatoriables that I deemed worthy, but was still somewhat iffy about them. Nonetheless, I worked hard at coming up with a complete list.

Let me back track a bit, however, and share with you my initial insights about the first ever automated elections. Prior to d-day, I was getting frustrated at all the glitches and hoopla being caused by this change of system. I also hated the way it was being reported that people might not be able to shade the circles etc. I was like: come on, let’s give our citizen’s some credit, right?

Anyways, today showed me that we can actually adapt to change. At least changes in technology. Yes there were things that went wrong, but it was bearable. Or so I’d like to believe. As for me, I arrived at my polling precinct at 11:40 am, which was the multipurpose hall of our village. I immediately found my name on the voter’s list and approached the table where the PPCRV were sitting and I was given a small slip of paper which contained my data and my clustered precinct number. Unfortunately, as the kind volunteer pointed out, I belonged to the largest clustered precinct in our area. There were three clustered precincts in our area and like the volunteer pointed out, mine had the longest lines. My companions were clustered in another precinct and they finished the whole process in about 1.5 hours, but for me, my tita and I ended up in line for over 4 hours.

Today the elections are over. Sadly, majority of those who I voted for in the senatorial race did not make it. I’m really sad about the fact that Adel Tamano didn’t make it. As I said in a past post, he was one of my sure bets for the elections.

At the end of the day, despite my four hour effort, two attempts to feed my ballot to the PCOS machine (it spat it out first!!!) and a last minute vote change due to some ungentlemanly behavior I observed while in line, I am really glad and honored to have been part of the first ever Philippine automated elections.

The Nightmare Continues

Ooooh….how intriguing does my title go!!!

Seriously though, a few nights ago I caught the press screening of the newest Nightmare on Elm Street movie. As a child, I remember seeing trailers and clips of this but I never watched it because I used to be too scared and freaked out at the thought of the movie. Finally, now that I’m an adult, I decided to give it a shot.

In this new Nightmare, Freddy Kreuger (played by Jackie Earle Haley) returns to haunt the dreams of a group of local teenagers. At first they think their dreams are just dreams, but before they know it, they find themselves running for their lives as they are stalked by the horribly disfigured killer.

Well,I survived the screening! I have to say it wasn’t as scary as I imagined it would be but it was a scream fest though :-) I loved watching it in the big screen because it was more thrilling to be in a dark room with a group of other viewers who would all jump in their seats or cringe in fright just at the right time. Given that it is a horror film, the standard, to be expected scenes in any horror flick is there, but I loved how even if I was anticipating it, I’d be proven wrong by the next scene shown :-)

Peaked your curiosity yet? Go check out the new Nightmare on Elm Street starting tomorrow, May 12, 2010 in a theater near you :-) Nightmare on Elm Street also stars Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz, directed by Samuel Bayer,  and is presented by Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with New Line Cinema.

Battling Bad Moods

The hot and sticky weather is taking it’s toll on me and even though I’m on my long-awaited two week vacation (no-pay vacation sadly!), I can’t get out of the rotten mood I find myself in. I guess waking up all sweaty can really take it’s toll on you, huh?

However, one thing that helps me get in a better mood is checking my blog’s dashboard and seeing a whole bunch of comments and entries for my blog anniversary contest. I want to take time out to say THANK YOU to my avid contestants!!! It’s shaping up to be quite a battle here :-) I wish I could give you all prizes simply for joining!!! I hope you find your daily visits and entries worth the while.

Another thing that helps me battle my bad moods is the beach. I’m lucky that I have had a few trips down to Batangas lately and it has done a lot to help soothe my soul. I’m glad too that I will be going to the beach again, this time with Bubba, on Thursday!!!

Besides the hot weather, I think the kinds of food I eat and the lifestyle I’m keeping now is adding to the bad mood. That plus hormones!!! I think I have to add more omega-3 rich foods (which supposedly help stabilize moods) or take some supplements like the evening primrose oil or St. John’s wort I used to take as this helps balance out hormones too. Other pills such as phentermine can also help with mood swings (plus it helps with weight loss!. However, I personally try to stay clear of popping all sorts of supplements, whether herbal or not. Exercising is also supposed to be quite helpful in battling bad moods, but it’s too hot to do so!!!

In any case, I’m glad I have my blog to keep me happy for now :-)

What makes children smart?

In my jobs as a teacher and a psychologist who does assessment, I have been asked many times about how to increase a child’s IQ points or how they can be smarter. I always reply by saying “there’s no ONE way to make someone smarter”. I tell them that while maternal nutrition and taking the best prenatal vitamins during pregnancy can help in the baby’s brain development, it is not necessarily enough to make them intelligent. Genes do play a factor, but it is not also just that. It is a combination of nature and nurture that fosters intelligence in an individual. Giving them ample opportunities to explore, for example, is an important contributor to intelligence and problem solving abilities. I think that more than just the academic demands of school (which many people think equate to making one smart) it is also important that a child be allowed to play. After all, play is a child’s work. This is how they make sense of the world and understand how to engage with other people. This makes them develop physically, mentally and socially as well.

Other things that help foster intelligence in children can include hand’s on supervision by parents, monitored (not necessarily banned!) television, playing computer games, reading storybooks, taking road trips, and engaging in a hobby such as stamp collecting.

In general, one’s intelligence is influenced by several factors that interact with one another and can not necessarily be taken into individual contexts. As parents and teachers, our job is to help stimulate these  so children can maximize their potentials.
