Saving the Earth with Project Noel
I am not a big fan of beauty contests or anything remotely involved in such events, but I realized after attending the launching of the Miss Earth Philippines’ advocacy project, Project Noel, last week that I was quite wrong in boxing beauty pageants and queens as simply another shallow attempt at exalting beauty.
Every year, the Miss Earth Philippines court works on an advocacy project to help promote awareness and programs that will care for the earth. This years project is a short film that emphasizes the importance of recycling and the impact each of us have on the environment with the wastes we produce daily. It is a very timely film because it brought home circumstances that actually happened not so long ago with Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
Albeit brief, the short film made me reflect on my behaviors. It was also a very entertaining approach to spreading the word about climate change.I think this can be an effective medium for schools to use to encourage students to become more responsible stewards of the earth.
The film will be shown in SM Cinemas during their Green Screenings. Will post updates on schedules when I get them
